No Traffic Lights!

no traffic lights

What would happen if all of the traffic lights were turned off and people had to take personal responsibility for their own driving actions? Would they drive more safely? Would they allow other motorists right of way? Would they have empathy for their fellow drivers and pedestrians?

Watch the clip below and you might just be surprised what happens when there are no traffic lights!

I think that you will agree that the nanny state does not have to nanny people at all, people can be responsible for their own actions when the control of the state is removed.

  1. Whenever the traffic lights fail round here, often but not often enough, there is no impatience, no road rage and no queues. When they are working as designed there is mucho impatience, road rage, mucho queuing and plenty of red light running!

Even crazier all traffic lights have been turned slightly so those sitting adjacent waiting for the lights to change cannot see the green lights move red. As ever is it just plain incompetence at work or ‘going beyond leadership’?

    • Shhh don’t tell everyone Bill that we don’t need those lights, the revenue collected would diminish for those that believe that there is no going beyond leadership! Cheers for the comment and welcome to this wee blog.

  2. I saw this video a while ago and was impressed but not surprised. My experience of human nature is that when people are given responsibility they seem to rise to the occasion most of the time. It’s when responsibility is removed that they behave like morons! I would also like to make a further suggestion that all the speed limits are changed to ‘suggested/advised speed limits’ so that when you are driving on an empty duel carriage way after school hours for example, you can make a responsible decision to drive a little faster, without being caught by a wretched speed camera!!! My Dad taught me to drive to the conditions of the road. I am a safe, considerate driver and I feel very resentful when situations constantly arise where I am forced to go unnecessarily slowly. There, I’ve had my rant! Smilie: :)

  3. I think more focus needs to be placed on fully intergrated Transport Systems that are FREE to all and taking the volume of Cars off the Road. FREE Public Transport is far more important than some notion of more liberty for Car users.

    • Interesting Idev, why don’t we all just go back to walking, or allow others to tax us for a cart and a horse!

    • Seriously what planet are you on?
In some parts of this planet the public transport system runs like clockwork, is efficient, modern, effective, integrated where the satisfied customer really is all that matters think Switzerland or Japan, but even in these two countries the car is still the transportation of choice.
With that said there isn’t a hope in hell of this land joining Switzerland and Japan when the incompetent fools that are allegedly running the transport infrastructure cannot yet integrate all traffic lights or actually get buses ready a station when a train pulls in. No instead they waste shed loads putting in low to no use cycle lanes, low use bus lanes and doing everything possible short of a ban discouraging car use with taxes, roadworks, lack of road maintenance while at the same time building out of town shopping malls, supermarkets and stores with ginormous car parks!
Joined up thinking doesn’t exist this Britain created by the EU on our watch as well, I am ashamed.

      • Bill, I could not agree more with you. These imbeciles that continually force their anti car opinions on others really irritates me. Could it be that those that wish to remove people from using cars are actually attempting to remove the mobility of people by insisting that they use public transport?

        • No I think the reason why public transport is pushed and car use is punished is ‘they’ need a divided population. The more division it is the easier it is to milk the cow. Car, bus, plane, helicopter, boat or train is all but irrelevant as most folk will simply take the quickest or cheapest means of transport but by screwing the roads, restricting the planes (emissions dontcha know), making train travel for the masses into cattle class means there are multiple divisions within the population. A win win situation. ‘They’ need us to be mobile to tax every last drop then can out of us. If they were to admit that we were slaves they would have to look after us. By allowing us degrees of freedom they manage to get the slaves paying for their own enslavement. It’s really neat when you add in the ‘vote’ it really does look like the people have the ultimate say when the polar opposite is true.
